Da Nang Han Market, Son Tra night market, and a Hàn River night — days beyond the block
Set apart from the stay loop, I sought out Han Market, Son Tra, and the Hàn River on their own. The story of days with long Grab rides.
The bar for leaving the block
Kept separate from the days spent around OceanSight, I sought out the Han Market area, the Son Tra night market, and the Hàn River waterfront on their own. Days solved inside the block, and days riding out by Grab. These 7 nights split into those two kinds of days.
Han Market and Cong Caphe
I walked the Han Market aisles reading the displays. In front of a Cong Caphe in the market area, the staff were lined up under teal lanterns taking a group photo. I watched the scene for a moment and took a shot. A moment of market-alley everyday life, passing right by.
Son Tra night market
The entrance arch of the Son Tra night market read CHỢ ĐÊM SƠN TRÀ / SON TRA NIGHT MARKET. In an alley strung with bulb lights and a Larue sign, I browsed a shop of crocodile leather goods. At the night market I ordered a Thai roti with banana and Nutella. About 50,000 VND.
August 25, the Hàn River
On the night of August 25, the buildings along the Hàn River lit up in blue facades and an I ❤ DA NANG LED display. Walking toward the river I read the letters on the buildings. The point where daytime Da Nang and nighttime Da Nang look most different.
A table at the water
Blue plastic tables stood at the waterfront. With an iced drink and a coconut in front of me, fishing boats passed on the water and the lights of the high-rises came in with them. A modest seat for a night this far out — and that was exactly what was good about it.
Summary
The days beyond the block meant long Grab rides. Even so, the same window was always there when I came back. The continuing story of these days unfolds in the OceanSight hub.
