Da Nang Xeo Xeo seafood dinner — from the table out front to takeaway in the room
A table to sit at, a back-alley pocha, takeaway in the room, Grab delivery. Dinner in front of the stay, split into four modes.
The sign in front of the stay
Right in front of OceanSight stands Xeo Xeo. The menu carried the name Xeo Xeo together with Nhậu Ngon — a word that means something like drinking well, and true to it, this place kept us at the table all evening.
The first table
On the evening of August 22 I stepped out of the stay and sat at that table. Cheese grilled oysters, clam soup and fries came first. The oysters wore peanuts and scallions; the clam soup was generous with basil. Seafood, broth and fried things gathering on a single table.
The grills that followed
Pork-wrapped enoki skewers, whole-shrimp skewers and fried rice followed. They were less salty than the oysters, so the table stayed with us a long time. Skewers with sharp grill marks, and fried rice on a star-shaped plate — as the table grew, the evening slowed.
The back-alley pocha
The same day, at a pocha about 1 minute behind the stay, I ordered a mango salad. Sweet, sour and salty. A bowl that resets the mouth, right for eating after a grill table.
A night that ended in takeaway
On August 23 I took the seafood and skewers out and spread them in the room. Grilled shrimp, sides, sauce and cola covered the tile floor. On nights I came in late, letting the room floor become the table beat sitting down to eat.
A night called in on Grab
Another night I called in a plate of rice on Grab, and once Bún Đậu Mắm Tôm. The ingredients were fresh. The sauce, though, divides a Korean palate. Every delivery night confirmed how wide the neighborhood's choices run.
